Casino Royale released on November 17, 2006. It stars Daniel Craig as James Bond and Eva Green as Vesper Lynd. The film grossed over $600 million worldwide and received generally positive reviews from critics. The film was directed by Martin Campbell and written by Ted Elliot and Terry Southern; the screenplay was based on Ian Fleming's 1953 novel Casino Royale. The film pays homage to Bond classics such as "From Russia with Love", "Goldfinger", and "Thunderball". The plot is based on a previously published James Bond continuation novel, that was expanded by the screenwriters into a screenplay. Casino Royale premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square in London on 14 November 2006. It received positive response from critics and grossed over $600 million worldwide. The film was followed by an unofficial sequel, "Never Say Never Again" (1983), starring Sean Connery. The soundtrack to Casino Royale is the first compilation of Bond songs in many decades not to feature any of the title songs present on its soundtrack. The soundtrack, which was released as a double-disc set on 26 March 2006, does feature the song "Skyfall" as well as a new recording of the theme from "Goldfinger". The two main themes are The London Underground by Shirley Bassey (a rerecorded version of her 1963 hit), and Licence to Kill by Duran Duran, who were both nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Some versions of the album feature additional tracks; for example, there is also a version with all seven James Bond theme songs plus Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" (a single release). On November 28, 2006, MGM reduced its price on Amazon.com from £5. 99 to £2.99 for the double-disc of the soundtrack set. The film was launched at Shepperton Studios, Surrey, England by MGM and distributed by United Artists worldwide following a tradition of launching Bond movies at Shepperton. It was physically released at the Odeon Leicester Square in London on November 17, 2006 and had its premiere on November 14, 2006 at the Odeon Leicester Square. The DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions were released on March 27, 2007 and October 23 respectively (UK); both were published by MGM Home Entertainment (UK) and UMG (EU for UK for 2007). The film opened at the Odeon Leicester Square in London on November 17, 2006 and at the IMAX in New York City on November 21, 2006. It was released by United Artists in the United States on January 18, 2007. The second UK release date was March 27, 2007 for DVD and October 23 for Blu-ray. Fox Home Entertainment released the film to DVD in Canada on January 30, 2009 with two alternate cuts of the film—the short "Casino Royale: Complete Airs" (a compilation of several theatrical trailers) and "Casino Royale Special Edition"; both contain additional footage not featured on television broadcasts of the film. cfa1e77820
